David Gardner's Introduction

We should say from the outset that The Motley Fool does not specifically recommend or advocate investing in any of the stocks that the Foolish 8 Spreadsheet identifies. This product serves simply as a convenience for locating some higher-grade investment possibilities within the small-cap universe. This is only the first step of your investment research -- a list of leads. Use the resources in Fooldom at large (company snapshots, 10-K and 10-Q reports, our message boards, etc.) to educate yourself about these businesses and their investment possibilities.

The Foolish 8 spreadsheet answers an oft-expressed need in Fooldom, namely, to provide a regular list of stocks that fit some of the key indicators that The Motley Fool looks for in growth stocks. By subscribing to this product, you have guaranteed yourself a steady stream of new investment ideas that conform to the principles laid out by my brother Tom Gardner and me in our Motley Fool Investment Guide. Best of all, we do the screens so you can do the thinking. The Foolish 8 spreadsheet saves you a tremendous amount of time by developing the list, enabling you to spend that time instead on researching these various investment opportunities in hopes of finding the small-cap winners of tomorrow.

One thing to note, though. The list of the Foolish 8 principles has been slightly revised from the book in order to create a list more inclusive of mid-caps, and with less weighting toward tiny micro-caps. Within the spreadsheet itself, you can click on any company name in the spreadsheet to and link directly through to its individual message board.

And finally, one for the lawyers :-). We do our best to get you timely, accurate information, but we reserve the right to be late, wrong, stupid, or even foolish. Use this data for your own information, not for trading. The Fool or any of its sources for data won't be liable for any delays or errors in the data, or for any losses you suffer because you relied upon it.

Fool On!
