Most Appearances Cruising
By David Forrest ([email protected])
Canaan, CT (June 15, 1999) -- Despite the recent market drop, Most Appearances is still cruising along, more than tripling the Standard & Poor's 500 Index in the time we've been tracking it. For those of you who aren't familiar with the Most Appearances screen, you should check out the following two articles:
2/19/99 Most Appearances
2/26/99 Most Appearances -- Part Deux
Officially, as of today's close, the Most Appearances mock, fake, not real-money portfolio has appreciated 30.43%. The S&P 500, by comparison, has managed to eke out just a 9.89% gain over the same period of time. For those of you not familiar with the Fool's portfolio tracking system, we allow you to track, in real-time, your portfolio's performance against the S&P 500. No other online portfolio tracker does this. Click here to set up your own portfolio.
This month we say good-bye to a few gems. On June 4, we sold Lexmark Intl. <% if gsSubBrand = "aolsnapshot" then Response.Write("(NYSE: LXK)") else Response.Write("(NYSE: LXK)") end if %> and Gap Stores <% if gsSubBrand = "aolsnapshot" then Response.Write("(NYSE: GPS)") else Response.Write("(NYSE: GPS)") end if %>. Lexmark returned over 140% for us in the one year that we held it. Gap comes off the books with a 73% gain under its belt. So sad to see good friends go. ;) Alas, in their place we have the venerable discount broker and wannabe one-stop financial shop, Charles Schwab. Schwab <% if gsSubBrand = "aolsnapshot" then Response.Write("(NYSE: SCH)") else Response.Write("(NYSE: SCH)") end if %> was bought on June 4 at $101 1/2. We purchased 18 shares of Mr. Schwab's company and only hope that it smiles on us as Gap and Lexmark did.
All told, we hold 15 stocks and $4466 in cash in the Most Appearances portfolio. Please keep in mind that there was no purchase last July. No stock met the Most Appearances criteria. So, this July we will only have a purchase (assuming a stock meets the criteria, of course). That purchase with no sales will use up some of that cash that's just collecting dust. We'll see you next month with our next update of the Most Appearances portfolio. For those of you that want more frequent updates, you can call my special Bogey Hotline at 1-900-MOST-APP. It's only $9.99 per minute and will more than pay for itself in the first 10 trades!
[Okay, that was a little joke. The number is actually 1-900....]
Hehehe.
See ya,
