<FOOLISH WORKSHOP>
Spring Fever
by Jim Stevens ([email protected])
Burlington, VT (April 1, 1999) -- Hey, how about those University of Connecticut Huskies, huh? I only lasted two semesters at the Storrs campus way back in 1979, but I have nonetheless remained a U. Conn cheerleader. It was great to see Jim Calhoun take the team into the Final Four at long last, and icing on the cake to watch them whoop up on Duke!
I don't know about the rest of you Workshop Fools, but one thing I've noticed about this little corner of investment cyberland is that it can get pretty darn dry and sterile at times. With all of my spreadsheets, number crunching, and talk of infinitely better ways of compounding those little green pieces of paper, a reader might wonder if I indeed have actual life!
Well, if you tuned in to get the latest angle or update on mechanical investing -- APRIL FOOL'S! Not today, friends. It got up near 60 degrees in Burlington today, and while that may not sound very balmy to you southern readers, for us it's a veritable heat wave at this time of year. A day for short pants and Frisbees instead of market indexes and business ratios.
I had the big coaches' meeting for Peanut League baseball, too. I couldn't wait to get home and root through the team bag to check out the new aluminum bats and that fresh case of hard balls. Yup, only a few more days and the little sluggers will be taking to dugouts and backstops. The grass won't be quite dry, the batter's box will be a mud puddle, and first base will be overthrown on nearly every play, but oh, what a glorious spring spectacle it will be.
You've got plenty of time to improve your investing strategy. For now, I hope everyone gets a big chocolate bunny in their basket!
