<FOOLISH WORKSHOP>
Leftovers
by David Forrest ([email protected])
Warwick, RI (November 27, 1998) -- Does it really matter anymore? I mean, it's the Friday after Thanksgiving, right? The Dow has rallied back from the October lows, the Dallas Cowboys finally lost in Texas Stadium on Thanksgiving (woo-hoo!), and I suspect that most of you were out in front of Wal-Mart at 6:00 this morning standing in line to get Faded Glory jeans at 40% off. (At least that's what my nutty mother-in-law was doing.) Bottom line is that I can't imagine anyone caring about stocks today. So, on this shortened market trading day, I offer you an abbreviated Workshop report.
Normally, being the last Friday of the month, we go over the Dozens approach and make the changes to the model portfolios. However, the Fool machine that pumps out 15 new articles a day for you, touching on everything from educational stories about finance (The Fribble) to real-money portfolios, is also calling it quits early today. Apparently we can't wait to stand in line for those Ronco Dial-O-Matics, either. That said, we'll have all of the Workshop numbers published by Sunday night, so make sure to check back here Sunday night or Monday morning. We'll definitely have the PEG5 included this week. We'll also update the Dozens portfolios in Monday's column for you so nobody misses out on anything.
As I wrap up today, I'd like to thank all of you for helping make the Workshop stronger than it's ever been. The torch has been passed, to a large extent, and we've gone from us telling you about our favorite screens to you developing and testing your own out on the message boards for the entire world to see. We are certainly all learning together, and I'm very thankful for it.
That doesn't mean we'll stop being creative (I'm still secretly testing my beta screen!), but it does mean that we've all seen a paradigm change. The creative intellect is much stronger when hundreds of thousands of people read and get inspired than it can ever be with one person.
Finally, let me mention one thing about my column last week, in which I solicited your feedback about fees for various Workshop products and projects. Let me be crystal clear: the Fool will not charge for admission. I was only referring to value added products, like Foolmart spreadsheets and things of that nature. So, for those of you rightly concerned about the Fool not being free anymore, don't be worried.
Now go forth from this column, shop, and be merry. :)
