The Daily Workshop Report
by Robert Sheard (TMF Sheard)

LEXINGTON, KY. (May 1, 1998) -- The U.S. Postal Service picked the wrong day to delay delivery of my newspaper, but there you have it: the most notable drawback of relying on others' data for screening information is that you're not in control of when (or if) it will arrive on your doorstep.

With new rankings due out today and the monthly switch for the Unemotional Growth model scheduled today, my Investor's Business Daily didn't arrive and I wasn't able to free up the time to hunt around town for a replacement copy this afternoon. So for now, I've posted partial rankings and a partial database in the Workshop.

It will probably be Sunday evening before I can update that missing information. (Hey, tomorrow's the Kentucky Derby. What you're suggesting is sacrilege here in the Bluegrass!)

Nevertheless, if you're using this kind of data for your own trades this week, and can't wait until I update the IBD data, you at least have the field of stocks in your hands and can snag a copy of the paper and run them as needed. (Probably a good idea on days you plan to trade anyway. I've been known to make an error every blue moon or so.)

With all that said, the Workshop screens are still doing remarkably well this year, with all but the original Investing for Growth model leading the market. (The monthly Unemotional Growth model I featured in my column here on Wednesday is even surpassing the best of our eight annual models.)

So enjoy the Derby, look for the completed rankings and database later this weekend, and have a Foolish weekend!
