At March 31, 1997, HRP had total investments of approximately $1.7 billion in 206 properties located in 32 states and the District of Columbia. The company primarily invests in retirement communities, assisted living centers, and long-term care facilities. The company is a hybrid REIT, making investments by means of mortgage, purchase, lease or merger transactions.

Health and Retirement Properties announced Funds From Operations (FFO) of $27 million, or $0.38 per share, for the quarter ended March 31, 1997, versus $24.2 million, or $0.37 per share, for the quarter ended March 31, 1996. Revenues were $35.9 million compared with revenues for the 1996 quarter of $28.5 million. Net income was $19.4 million, or $0.27 per share, as compared to net income of $15.8 million, or $0.24 per share, for the 1996 quarter.
