David, a native of Washington, D.C., graduated as a Morehead Scholar from the University of North Carolina
at Chapel Hill in 1988. With many ideas and no regrets, he quit his job writing for Louis Rukeyser's Wall Street
(the newsletter, not the TV show) in order to found The Motley Fool newsletter with his brother, Tom.
There was no turning back. The Motley Fool has since become an international multi-media company that
reaches millions each month as it plays host to a celebrated community of individuals dedicated to
helping each other make better financial decisions and improve their overall quality of life.
David and Tom are the authors of several best-selling books, including The Motley Fool Investment Guide,
You Have More Than You Think, and Rule Breakers, Rule Makers.
The Gardners also oversee The Motley Fool's nationally syndicated newspaper column, which is carried by
more than 225 papers.
Tom graduated with an honors degree in English and creative writing from Brown University, and has been
formally trained in just about everything but finance. In 1994, he set sights with brother David on Fool.com,
The Motley Fool's website. Today The Motley Fool has grown into an international multi-media network
offering financial solutions to millions of individuals worldwide seeking to make better financial decisions and
improve their overall quality of life. Tom and David have co-authored four New York Times best sellers,
including The Motley Fool Investment Guide and Rule Breakers, Rule Makers. In addition, the Gardners
oversee The Motley Fool's nationally syndicated newspaper column, which is carried by more than 225 papers.
Mac joined the Fool Radio team in August 1998. Mac was born in Houston and
grew up thinking that the Astrodome REALLY was the 8th Wonder of the World.
(It's not - that was just clever marketing). Mac now lives in Virginia with
his family. He doesn't understand the appeal of David Spade. He does
understand the appeal of Ricky Gervais, Bruce Springsteen, and Costco.
Steve hooked up with The Motley Fool Radio Show in January 2000. Since then he's been increasing his
expertise in recording, editing, and blaming the humidity for any technical difficulties. Steve
dedicates each and every broadcast to Jim, his trusty garden gnome.
