Charity Drive Update
12/23/98

OK, I have to 'fess up. Like many Fools out there, I've been putting off making my contribution to Share Our Strength (SOS). Like you, I figured I had several more weeks before the deadline. So I've been procrastinating -- until today.

This morning I became one of the nearly 900 "Generous Fools" who have contributed to the charity drive. And you know what, the whole process (I made the donation online with a credit card) took less than five minutes. The wonders of technology.

It seems that many other Fools had the same idea. Since last week, we've had about 340 more contributors, bringing the total so far to 883. That already tops last year's 792 donors and puts us very close to exceeding the 1,000-donor mark.

Dollar-wise, we broke the $90,000 mark if you count the "Here's My Two Cents" dollars the Fool is giving for message board posts. The overall total is now $90,145.36. That works out to an average of roughly $102 per Generous Fool. At that rate, we need at least 316 more Generous Fools if we are to match last year's total of $122,382.47. It can be done.

We need your help now more than ever. If you haven't had time to contribute, spare five minutes now to help fight hunger. If you've already given, thank you, BUT we also need you to spread the gospel to your family and friends. You know, when you're drinking that cup of eggnog, you say, "Uncle Bob, have you contributed to SOS through The Motley Fool?"

Or on Boxing Day, the day after Christmas, when you're standing in line to return or exchange unwanted gifts, turn to the lady behind you and say, "Excuse me. Have you heard of The Motley Fool or Share Our Strength?" This also would be a great topic of conversation on that cross-country flight. Go on, don't be shy.

Remember, the DEADLINE for the charity drive is THURSDAY, DECEMBER 31. That's right, we need your donation by the end of the year. (It's also the deadline if you want to deduct it from your taxes for 1998.)

So make a donation now, however big or small, to help fight hunger. After all, in this season of giving, it's the least we can do.
