Coke Is It

Thirsty for a Duel? Excellent. Number one is either McDonald's or the Motley Fool.

We have been gulping down colas for the past hundred years, but some Fools still can't agree on what the future holds for the king of pop.

The Bull...
The Cash-King portfolio recently did a great job of making the bullish case for Coca-Cola. But to restate some of the obvious, this Atlanta-based behemoth makes, distributes, and markets soft drink concentrates and syrups. With a presence in 200 countries, the company now claims an astonishing 50% of the worldwide market share for soft drinks, selling four of the top five brands, including perhaps the planet's best-known brand of any kind.

The Bear...
This past summer I made it out to the Coca-Cola Museum in Atlanta, where I figure Louis -- who lives in Atlanta -- is probably downing a Coke about now. I welled up. Maybe it was the historical account of how one of the greatest brand names came to be. Maybe it was nationalist pride -- not only in the sense of the carbonated fizz being such a successful American export, but also relishing in the span of corporate excellence that fellow Cuban-American Roberto Goizueta, the former Coke CEO, had watched over.
