FOOL GLOBAL WIRE LEXINGTON, Kentucky (December 31) -- Let's look ahead to 1997, Fools, and let me tell you about some of the changes in store over the next few days. (MF Czar is busting his hump getting some of these new forms ready for us to use, so bear with us during the transition.) We're about to make some changes I'm pretty excited about for our burgeoning Foolish Workshop. First of all, this daily write-up for the Investing for Growth portfolio is going to be transformed into a daily write-up for the entire Workshop area, giving me more freedom to write about whatever topic is most notable each day. One day it might be the IFG or Unemotional Growth models if something newsworthy crops up. Another day it might be an interesting discovery a reader has suggested in the message folder. Like this whole area, the write-up will be an essay in discovery. We're going to continue tracking the IFG model, of course, but it will be built into the Foolish Workshop itself, side-by-side with Unemotional Growth. (That name is still subject to change, by the way. No one much cares for it, but that's a subject I'll bring up again on another day.) And of course, the Workshop will also include all the screens I've been mentioning in the basic Workshop file I've been tracking. In keeping with the Foolish ideal of doing one's own research, we're putting all these ideas together as ways of generating potential fields of stocks to research. How much research you're able to do, of course, is up to you, but we launch these screens as initial steps which you can build into whatever you make of them. So, the IFG material will disappear from the Fool's School and re-appear within the Foolish Workshop, which is going to become a part of our Stock Research section of the Fool. (You'll still be able to get to the daily area for it through the Hall of Portfolios as well, in the slot IFG occupies right now.) So, here's what you'll get when we're finished making the transition. A daily report for the Workshop. Updated performance numbers for Investing for Growth, Unemotional Growth, a variety of other single-factor screens each night (I hope). Weekly rankings updates for the IFG and UG models and monthly rankings for the entire database and all the other screens. (If I can work it where we do this weekly, I'll update it every weekend, but no promises on that score yet.)
The best thing about the Workshop structure is that each screen will have all the information you need in one place. You'll have a set of directions explaining each step used in the screen, the year-to-date performance results, and the current rankings, all in one place. And since all the screens will be in one center, you won't have to hunt all through Fooldom to find the directions for different screens in fribbles, FAQs, message archives and the like.
How's that for a New Year's start? I hope to have the entire area built for this weekend's new month's rankings, but if not, continue to look for all the rankings we have already in place until the transition is made. Stay Foolish and have a Happy New Year! Also, all you screeners out there, don't forget to sign up for the Thoroughbred Stock Challenge. Entries are due by the opening bell Thursday. Hey, it's free; what do you have to lose? Sign up! |
