FOOL GLOBAL WIRE LEXINGTON, Kentucky (December 17) -- On Friday, I mentioned to you some thoughts about the future of the Foolish Workshop concept, where we provide raw data in a number of different screens to let you experiment with your favorite combinations and share your results with us.
But I also mentioned that I wanted to offer you another type of fun. Well, after teaching myself a crash-course (and I use the term "crash" advisedly) in HTML coding, I've developed a little game for us to play.
Intoducing: The Thoroughbred Stock Challenge!
The Challenge is somewhat like our old Port Folly game, but I've made modifications to make it easier to conduct and more related to the work we're doing here in this area.
I've selected a list of roughly 100 stocks (they ought to look familiar) from which each player chooses ten each month. The Challenge runs for three months, but I'm also going to track monthly winners so those players who find it after we've begun won't have to sit out two months or so before beginning.
The game isn't officially part of The Motley Fool (although the Fools know of my plans), so please address any questions or comments you have about it through the e-mail link at the site.
Each night I'll post current standings in both the monthly and overall games, and once I'm sure all the bugs are worked out of the game, I'll probably begin to add a weekly or nightly commentary as well. (It is, after all, a teaching tool even though I hope it'll be fun).
Check it out soon, get the list of stocks, start doing your homework, and make your entry before trading starts on January 2. Also, tell your friends and co-workers, anyone with access to the Web. I believe I have the entire process automated now so the amount of work involved is roughly the same whether I have 2 players or 2,000. So let's put this rattle-trap to the test and if it proves fun and reasonably popular, I'll do my best to scare up some prizes for future seasons. Enjoy!
