LEXINGTON, KY. (October 30): Technology stocks tried to bounce back today, but the effort wasn't a unanimous one across the Investing for Growth holdings. Tellabs and 3Com were indeed up strongly for the day, but Nike continues to give back some of its pre-split gains and SCI Systems took another little tumble. It's almost as if the market's too nervous about life in general (the election?) to sustain any direction for even an entire day, let alone a week or a month.

In company news, Coca-Cola announced today that it has begun construction on its 23rd bottling plant in China, a $30 million facility in the southwestern city of Chengdu. The move is an effort to reach the more than 100 million people in Sichuan, China's most populous province. Coke plans to have invested some $500 million in China by the end of 1997.

In today's public service announcement (often known as a self-serving announcement), I just wanted to point out to our AOL readers that the new AOL software for Windows 95 is now available for your inspection. This is supposed to include the new browser from Microsoft, so you can get around the sometimes clunky and troublesome AOL browser.

And for our Web site readers, come back home to AOL! In case you've missed all of the announcements, America Online is now offering flat-fee subscription rates of $20 per month with unlimited hours. And if you're already hooked up to the Internet through work or school and only want the AOL content, your monthly fee would be even less. So you can get the full Motley Fool experience (message boards, chat rooms, the works) for the one low fee. Many of you who have left AOL because you were running up bills of hundreds of dollars, fret no more. For the cost of most Internet Service Providers, you can have the Internet and AOL's content for one low price. (And they didn't even pay me to plug it ... now that's public service!)
