(FOOL GLOBAL WIRE) LEXINGTON, KY. (October 23): SCI Systems posted earnings 65% better than last year's performance and blew past consensus analyst estimates by 12%. First Call listed 67 cents per share as the mean estimate for the fiscal first quarter, but SCI Systems earned 75 cents versus last year's 51 cents.
SCI Systems has been one of the market's better performers of late, up some 50% over the last quarter. And it was just one of many technology stocks rebounding today as the Nasdaq continued to go the other way from the Dow. Along with SCI Systems, ADC Telecom and 3Com posted decent recovery gains today after the recent technology give-back program.
Beleaguered Claire's Stores announced today that it expects to meet or beat third-quarter estimates of 15 cents per share when it announces on November 12. The company also said it's "surprised" that the stock has dropped in price recently. Claire's was trading at $25.625 on Sept. 16, after a three-for-two stock split, and closed today at $17.875, a 30% tumble.
The company claims that business has been "exceptionally strong" and that it sees no reason why its current strong growth won't continue for the foreseeable future. Transmitted: 10/23/96 |
