(FOOL GLOBAL WIRE) LEXINGTON, KY. (October 10): Today was a real snoozer day for the markets and Investing For Growth. The only news crossing the wire was a Legg Mason Wood Walker downgrade of telecom equipment maker TELLABS <% if gsSubBrand = "aolsnapshot" then Response.Write("(NASDAQ:TLAB)") else Response.Write("(NASDAQ:TLAB)") end if %> from "outperform" to "market perform." And yet on a modestly negative day, Tellabs stayed flat in the face of the downgrade. So, either Legg Mason doesn't hold much sway with investors or they looked at yesterday's absolute blowout earnings and came up with a markedly different conclusion from the analysts. You make the call.
The one stock that did sport a sizable move was MIRAGE RESORTS <% if gsSubBrand = "aolsnapshot" then Response.Write("(NYSE:MIR)") else Response.Write("(NYSE:MIR)") end if %> which slid 2.5% on weakness in the gaming sector today.
So with nothing serious to report for the portfolio today, what better chance than to introduce tonight's Foolish auditorium event, a gathering with investment author and money manager James O'Shaughnessy. Jim is the author of Invest Like the Best and the brand new What Works on Wall Street. Come to the Bowl tonight at 9:00 eastern and hear what Jim has to say about the computer models and portfolio strategies he discusses in his new book. If you like the mechanical modeling approach used by Investing For Growth (an approach O'Shaughnessy calls "strategic indexing"), you'll be intrigued by the work laid out in Jim's new book.
Be Foolish, be there!
