(FOOL GLOBAL WIRE) TEMPE, AZ, October 1 -- As the DJIA continues to set records (up 22.73 points today), the IFG portfolio also continues its upward climb.
A few of our stocks had news attached to them today. Prudential Securities began coverage of Rotech Medical (ROTC) with a buy rating. Somebody must have been listening, since ROTC was up 1/2, or a little over 3% on the day. Nothin' to sneeze at.
It was also reported that shareholders have approved a $480 million deal in which Donald Trump's publicly traded casino company will buy his Atlantic City Trump's Castle Casino Resort. As you probably know, The Castle is one of two casinos located in Atlantic City's booming marina district. The other is Harrah's Casino Hotel. So what, you say? Well, Mirage Resorts Inc. (MIR) is planning a $750 million, 2,000 room casino resort in the marina district. Success loves company. Regardless, MIR pressed up $7/8 today, a 3.4% increase. Winner, Winner...Front Line Winner.
Paychex, Inc. (PAYX) announced the opening of a new office in Albuquerque, New Mexico. The office opened today, but that's probably old news for most of you. Must have been old news to other investors also, since the market met this news with a resounding yawn. PAYX was up $1/8.
Maintaining its aggressive consumer pricing strategy, Hewlett-Packard Company (HWP) today announced it has reduced the price on the HP OmniGo 100 Organizer Plus in the U.S. market by $100, lowering the suggested retail price to $249. HP also reduced the price in the U.S. market on the HP OmniGo 100 Connectivity Pack to $49 from $119. The Connectivity Pack allows users to connect easily to a desktop PC for automatic file management, backup and synchronization. Investors decided to reduce HWPs suggested market price on the news: down $1, or a little over 2%.
No news on Tellabs, Inc. (TLAB) today, but that didn't stop the market from bidding it down $1 3/4 on the day. Checkpoint Systems (CKP) was up $3/8, also on no news.
The remainder of the IFG stocks had changes of less than one percent either way. Check out the numbers to your right. Not a bad day, all things considered.
