(FOOL GLOBAL WIRE) LEXINGTON, KY. (September 27): A big cipher in terms of news today. The market was flat, none of the big earnings stories that the rest of the week featured for the IFG model. The only story was an announcement from Hewlett-Packard that it is offering new computer management services that it claims will help increase productivity and control costs.
The company has been using the approach for roughly a year to unify its own web of desktop computers through a common operating environment, saving millions of dollars. The goal is to simplify the management of many machines. The new service makes this experience available to other companies.
Despite the lack of any news I could find on the wire services, SCI Systems got hammered today, dropping 4 points. Whether some investors/traders are jumping out to catch their recent profits or whether there's some news on its way is hard to tell, but somebody sure got nervous today.
An Unemotional Growth model research update: I'll be out of town all of next week, gathering more data for the UG historical database. When I'm through, we should have data going back to mid 1986, for a total of 11 years' worth. While that's still only half of what I'd ideally like to have, it'll have to do since Investor's Daily wasn't published until the mid 1980s.
Nevertheless, three Fools will be sitting in for me next week in my absence. Please make MFs Sandy, Taxes, and Eloqnt welcome as they write these daily reports. I'll be back with you on Monday, October 7, and within a couple of weeks after that, we should have some more results compiled. Stay Foolish!
