(FOOL GLOBAL WIRE) LEXINGTON, KY. (September 20): This is a week for the IFG 1996 Highlight Film (and there haven't been many, so maybe this IS the highlight film). Friday saw another powerful move for the Classic IFG model as eight of the ten holdings gained territory, one was flat, and only one suffered a minor set-back.
SCI Systems won the final sprint today, picking up nearly 5% for the session. Bunched together, gaining roughly 2% to 2.5% each, were four other IFG stocks: Nichols Research, 3Com, Paychex, and Checkpoint Systems.
For the week, the portfolio tacked on 5.69%, pulling the year-to-date return up to a respectable 14.64%.
As for company news, the only story on the wire services today comes via a Wall Street Journal article yesterday about Hewlett-Packard. Apparently millions of HP ink-jet cartridges had a slight defect and the company was hoping no one would notice. A piece of tape covering the air hole leaves a residue that can clog the cartridge, according to the article. The company apparently knew of the defect back in April or May, shortly after they were manufactured, but adopted a "wait-and-see attitude" about disclosing the information. The company said either retailers or Hewlett-Packard will accept returns, and the problems should not materially affect its financial results. HWP was up 5/8 today.
The new Classic IFG rankings are now posted. There were no changes from last week's order. Look for the complete weekly updates for the IFG (Relative Strength) and Unemotional Growth (UG) models by Sunday afternoon in the IFG Statistics Center. (If you're reading this on our Web page, it's usually a little later getting posted out there. It's not a conspiracy, just more involved.)
Have a Foolish weekend!
