(FOOL GLOBAL WIRE)
LEXINGTON, KY. (August 26): Continuing Friday's winning ways, the Investing For Growth portfolio bucked the market's downward movement again today, posting a gain on the performance of several stocks. Mirage Resorts, Nichols Research, Paychex, and Hewlett-Packard all posted gains of more than 2% each today, and Tellabs wasn't far behind with a 1.3% victory. The only big loser on the day was SCI Systems, which shed 3%.
Helping to push the portfolio higher today was a slew of new product announcements from Hewlett-Packard. HP unveiled three new Pavilion brand personal computer target toward game players and consumers looking for high-end graphics and video-phone capabilities.
For game players, the HP Pavilion PC Model 7295V comes pre-installed with games, VR Soccer and Whiplash, which use top three-dimensional technology and graphic acceleration. The expected price tag for this loaded system runs $3,199.It has a 200 megahertz Pentium microprocessor, 32 megabytes of random access memory, and a 3.8-gigabyte hard drive.
The Pavilion 7280P, priced at an estimated $2,399, comes with a built-in color scanner, a 166 MHz Pentium processor, 16mb of RAM, and a 2.5gb hard drive.
And the Pavilion 7275Z, at an estimated $2,599, integrates Iomega's Zip drive, a 166 MHz Pentium processor, 32mb of RAM and 2.5gb hard drive.
In addition, Hewlett-Packard announced its Vectra XW personal computer workstation, which is aimed at mechanical engineers and animation artists who design products in three dimensions.
And finally, HP announced six new products specifically designed to make the transition to high-performance networking easy and cost-effective by reducing the cost and complexity of building, growing and maintaining high-performance work groups.
The market apparently liked what it saw from the recently beleaguered computer and peripheral maker, boosting HWP stock nearly 3%.
Another sweet day for IFG. And we all know it's due for some sweetness! Fool on.
