The Daily IFG Report (FOOL GLOBAL WIRE) by Robert Sheard (MF DowMan) LEXINGTON, KY. (August 22): It was a very light news day for the IFG Model, but that didn't stop the portfolio from enjoying some success, chiefly a result of a strong technology sector. The Nasdaq picked up a point and a half for the day, almost twice the gain posted by the Dow. If you've read my Dow report this evening, you'll know that a one-day gain can be compounded out to a completely ludicrous number. (For example, today's gain for the Nasdaq would turn $10,000 into nearly $480,000 in a year if it could be this sweet everyday.) Obviously it can't, but good days are something to smile about and there's no harm in that as long as you realize it's just that -- one day. For IFG, several stocks had moves of $1 or more in the right direction: Hewlett-Packard, Nichols Research, Paychex, and Tellabs (which actually posted a $2 gain). In fact, of the ten IFG stocks, only two slipped on the day, SCI Systems (by 75 cents), and RoTech Medical (by an eighth). Is it the start of a turnaround for IFG and the end of the recent technology doldrums? Who knows? But we'll keep plugging away, staying invested for the days like today when the market rewards you for being long. Fool on!
