(FOOL GLOBAL WIRE) ST. PETERSBURG, FL. (July 22): From the road this week, I'll be reporting the straight and narrow fairly briefly. In fact, tomorrow's IFG report will either be delayed and very abbreviated as I'm attending some Olympic soccer matches. Bear with me this week, Fools.
Checkpoint Systems <% if gsSubBrand = "aolsnapshot" then Response.Write("(NYSE:CKP)") else Response.Write("(NYSE:CKP)") end if %> appears to have blown away Street estimates today, posting earnings of $0.19 per share compared to $0.12 last year and First Call estimates of $0.16, yet the stock was hammered amid Nasdaq selling pressure. Gross margins are increasing and expenses as a percentage of revenue are decreasing, so on the surface, I haven't seen anything to explain today's down-draft. Maybe something in the conference call? I'll keep my copious staff looking for details.
Mirage Resorts <% if gsSubBrand = "aolsnapshot" then Response.Write("(NYSE:MIR)") else Response.Write("(NYSE:MIR)") end if %>, however, missed analyst expectations by two cents for their second quarter. Mirage said that the company-wide "win percentage" dropped to 16% from 17.6% a year ago and 20.2% for all of 1995, equating to roughly five cents per share in earnings.
Hewlett-Packard <% if gsSubBrand = "aolsnapshot" then Response.Write("(NYSE:HWP)") else Response.Write("(NYSE:HWP)") end if %> continues to flood the news wires with releases, often five or six on any given today. So for all of the alliance and project announcements, check out Keyword: Company News. One example from today's batch is the announcement of a new printer, the HP LaserJet 5L Xtra, which combines fast, high-volume, 600 dots-per-inch printing with a suite of business-productivity software packages aimed at small-business and home-office customers. The new printer is expected to cost $479.
That's all from the road tonight. Fool on!
