The Daily IFG Report

(FOOL GLOBAL WIRE)
by Robert Sheard (MF DowMan)

LEXINGTON, Ky. (July 10): Boy was I ever wrong. My first thought when it became apparent that Oracle was dropping out of the IFG model portfolio for the third quarter was that whatever company replaced it, at least I'd stand a chance of understanding the news and press releases.

Enter Hewlett-Packard.

Now for those of you who are technically inclined, this is cake. But for me, I had better luck with Derrida and Heidegger than I have with this stuff. Here's the first paragraph of HP's press release today about an alliance with Informix and SAP:

"Hewlett-Packard Company today announced a worldwide agreement with INFORMIX and SAP, enabling HP to offer a Windows NT platform for SAP R/3 Rel. 3.0 and INFORMIX OnLine Dynamic Server 7.20 on the HP NetServer LX Pro Series. The SAP and INFORMIX combination provides customers an integrated product with innovative database technology at a cost-effective price."

I won't attempt a translation, but I'll do my darnedest to let you know when such reports pop up in the future. If you want the full text, you can find the BusinessWire release at Keyword:Company News.

Overall, it was a volatile day for tech stocks after Motorola's big earnings disappointment. Nevertheless, both Hewlett-Packard and 3Com had strong moves today. Nichols Research, however, plunged on no apparent news. Nichols is in the middle of its August quarter, so it doesn't appear to be earnings related. I'll keep checking to see if a late report floats across the wire on NRES and report tomorrow if I find anything.
