Today a few of the companies were in the news. Tellabs (NASFAQ:TLAB), on a tear of late, gave back a bit today when it announced that it has agreed to acquire technology that complements its product line from privately held TRANSYS Networks of Canada. The deal is worth $17 million. Tellabs will get the TRANSYS Sonet line to complement the Tellabs Titan 5300 and Sonet-based Titan 5500 digital cross-connect systems.
United HealthCare <% if gsSubBrand = "aolsnapshot" then Response.Write("(NYSE: UNH)") else Response.Write("(NYSE: UNH)") end if %> announced today that it has completed the purchase of the building it currently occupies in Edina, Minn. The Edina facility, which was previously leased, houses approximately 1000 of the company's over 3,700 Minnesota-based employees. Terms of the purchase were not disclosed. "The purchase of this facility reinforces our continued commitment to the Twin Cities business community," said Terry Wills, chief operating officer. "We have been growing our presence in Minnesota for more than 20 years and we are excited to take this additional step."
And finally, two announced agreements between Oracle <% if gsSubBrand = "aolsnapshot" then Response.Write("(NASDAQ:ORCL)") else Response.Write("(NASDAQ:ORCL)") end if %> and Software Publishing Corp. <% if gsSubBrand = "aolsnapshot" then Response.Write("(NASDAQ:SPCO)") else Response.Write("(NASDAQ:SPCO)") end if %>. The first is a non-exclusive licensing and joint development agreement to bring SPC's patent-pending Intelligent Formatting technology to the Internet. Under the agreement, SPC's Intelligent Formatting engine is being ported to Java for use in the Oracle InterOffice product line.
The second announcement is that Oracle has purchased a worldwide site license for SPC's ASAP WordPower visual communications software. Under the terms of the agreement, SPC grants Oracle and its subsidiaries a license for the desktop, network and mobile use of ASAP WordPower. ASAP WordPower is available in six languages, including International English, Domestic English, German, Spanish, Italian, French and Dutch.
