(FOOL GLOBAL WIRE) LEXINGTON, Ky. (June 5): The Classic IFG Approach kept pace with the Nasdaq and the Dow today, but trailed the S&P 500. The Relative Strength models, however, shined through with 1.2% and 1.3% increases on the backs of healthy moves in Nike, Paychex, Thermo Electron, The Gap, and Checkpoint Systems. (Both Nike and The Gap went ex-dividend today as well.) The Monthly version continues to perform well, with a year-to-date return of 32%.

The telecommunications equipment manufacturer's CABLESPAN 2300 universal telephony distribution system has been selected by Adelphia Communications, the country's seventh-largest cable operator, in order to provide local telephone service in its eleven-state market.
And in a related announcement, Tellabs completed a contract with Euristix, Ltd. of Dublin, Ireland for the joint development of a management solution for CABLESPAN. The CABLESPAN management system, which was announced last month at the NCTA trade show in Los Angeles, will improve carriers' service quality and service-activation processes. General platform availability is scheduled for December 1996.
United Healthcare <% if gsSubBrand = "aolsnapshot" then Response.Write("(NYSE:UNH)") else Response.Write("(NYSE:UNH)") end if %> bounced back from yesterday's selloff today. The company announced that it has completed its acquisition of the remaining half interest in Community Health Network of Louisiana and its companion management company. UNH used newly issued common stock worth about $50 million to pay for the acquisition. In addition, Louisiana Independent Physicians Association holders are eligible to receive up to an additional $35 million in cash in the event Community Health's post-acquisition earnings in 1996 and 1997 reach certain specified levels.
Oracle Corp. <% if gsSubBrand = "aolsnapshot" then Response.Write("(NASDAQ:ORCL)") else Response.Write("(NASDAQ:ORCL)") end if %> also received a boost today after IBM's Asia Pacific chief made positive comments about the expected popularity of the new $500 network computer championed by Oracle, IBM, Sun Microsystems, and Apple. "People in Hong Kong and the rest of Asia are very practical people," Robert Timpson told reporters in Hong Kong. Timpson said the NC's ease of use and low cost would make it especially popular in the fast-growing Asia market.
