by Robert Sheard (MF DowMan) LEXINGTON, Ky. (Apr. 23): Another strong day for the Nasdaq propped up the IFG portfolio today. I won't even try, though, to compare this to what's happening in the Fool Portfolio, with that vulgar display of wealth streaming out of Roy, Utah.
Bitter? Me bitter? You mean cause I'm the only Fool who DOESN'T own Iomega? Ah well ... hope you're among the wealthy ones partying in Utah this week.
On to IFG news ...
Green Tree Financial <% if gsSubBrand = "aolsnapshot" then Response.Write("(NYSE:GNT)") else Response.Write("(NYSE:GNT)") end if %> filed a shelf registration today with the SEC for $1 billion in asset-backed securities. In the form of certificates and notes, these securities will be issued by a trust, whose assets will include a pool of retail installment sales contracts and promissory notes for the purchase of a variety of consumer products. Each class of securities will represent the right to receive a specified number of payments of principal and interest on the related contracts.
In today's conference call with analysts, Digital Equipment <% if gsSubBrand = "aolsnapshot" then Response.Write("(NYSE:DEC)") else Response.Write("(NYSE:DEC)") end if %> said it would be announcing an alliance tomorrow with Computer Associates <% if gsSubBrand = "aolsnapshot" then Response.Write("(NYSE:CA)") else Response.Write("(NYSE:CA)") end if %> on several enterprise solutions. The two companies will collaborate on a range of products and services. Look for details tomorrow after the release.
A couple of news items on the Relative Strength stocks today ...
In that glorious bastion of "research," the Wall Street Journal's "Heard on the Street" column, we hear today that analysts are reportedly worried that Nike's <% if gsSubBrand = "aolsnapshot" then Response.Write("(NYSE:NKE)") else Response.Write("(NYSE:NKE)") end if %> P/E ratio of 26 is too high for a company that's "not truly in the big leagues." When you figure out the logic of this one, let me know. I'll be out walking in the park, wearing my Nikes.
And finally, Paychex <% if gsSubBrand = "aolsnapshot" then Response.Write("(NASDAQ:PAYX)") else Response.Write("(NASDAQ:PAYX)") end if %> went ex-dividend today, paying 9 cents per share.
Enjoy, Fools. If you are long IOMG, congratulations; go rejoice. If you missed it like me, take comfort in the fact that you didn't short it. If you shorted it ... nothing I say here's going to help.
