The Daily Workshop Report
by Robert Sheard (TMF Sheard)

LEXINGTON, KY. (Aug. 21, 1997) -- Instead of our typical listing including the Growth Screens on a monthly cycle and our Value Screens on their annual cycle, I want to include all five groupings today.

Unless you delve into the individual listings for each screen, you may be overlooking some pretty fair performances by screens with longer holding periods. And of course, anything we can do to extend holding periods will serve to reduce trading costs, and ultimately, if we can extend to a twelve- or eighteen-month period, we'll get a break on taxes as well.

Here, then, are the year-to-date returns for each model. For the Growth Screens, we're tracking them on four update cycles: every month, every quarter, every six months, every twelve months. The Value Screens are only being tracked with an annual update for now. (We may have to do some redesigning in light of the new eighteen-month capital gains holding period.)
