The final day of our "April" accounting period was a strong one, especially for Nasdaq stocks. In percentage terms, even with the Dow up roughly 95, the Nasdaq smoked past it, up the rough equivalent of 175 Dow points.
This weekend marks the monthly updates for our seven growth screens. We follow each of the growth screens for four different holding periods, simply as a way to see how the longer holding periods fare versus the aggressive updating approaches.
If you're confused, then, by one of the screens that seems to hold stocks no longer in the current rankings, that's the answer. Look at the dates in the heading to see precisely what holding period that list covers.
If you're new to the Workshop, our screen returns include capital gains only for the growth stocks. Dividends, as well as taxes and trading costs, are not accounted for here, but they should certainly be considered in your decision-making process.
As always, I must stress that these screens should not be seen as wholesale recommendations. Rather, look at the screens as starting points for your own research and portfolio strategies. Many people who use the data here will incorporate one or more screens into their own strategies and perhaps build a portfolio using more than one approach to keep risk spread across a number of stocks.
In short, make the information here work for you in whatever way works best in your own approach. Look for the new database and rankings on the AOL site late Saturday or early Sunday, and on the web site on Monday. Enjoy the weekend!
