The Daily Workshop

Readers who have been with us since the beginning of the Foolish Workshop in January know that we've had a pretty good track record with the database revisions, getting the new one up on the AOL site every weekend by noon or so on Sunday. Our track record took a black eye this weekend.
With the holiday weekend sending some information sources out of town and the U.S. Mail setting a new standard of pokiness, I was not able to get the March 28 issue of Value Line until a reader graciously e-mailed it to me a few hours ago.
I apologize for the delay and will do my best to get the database updated on the AOL site tonight (it may be very late or early tomorrow morning). It'll be up on the Web site as soon as possible after that.
This points up one concern, of course, in using a commercial service for rankings like we do. You're dependent on the supply of information. Fortunately, this particular information resource (Value Line) has been around for decades and is usually reasonably prompt. (I'll check into their electronic edition to see if this will eliminate the weekly mail watch.)
For those wondering about the next round of portfolio updates, they come into effect next week. We use the rankings from the first Friday of each month (or quarter), so this weekend marks the end of our March "month" and our first quarter.
On a more final note, today's session, ugly as it was, is the final day for the Thoroughbred Stock Challenge. Because of the Fool's partnership with Final Bell, I'll be discontinuing the game with today's wrap up. Thanks to all of you who participated. Perhaps I'll reinstate some version of it again in the future when I can better justify the time involved.
