PortTrak - Spin-Offs

So, you own PortTrak, you own AT&T, and now, thanks to the workings of Ma Bell, you also own Lucent Technologies. Wow! How do you account for the spinoff of LU from T in PortTrak?

The first place you want to go is to the Fool Article on this issue called AT&T/Lucent Spinoff Explained. That will give you the details of what everything means. After you understand that a bit, this article will tell you how to do it on PortTrak.

Here goes:

- You are going to want to find out how many shares of LU you now own.

- In PortTrak, do a Buy Security with that number of shares of LU, but no cost... zero for price per share, zero for commission

-Do a Manual Adjust, and put the number of shares of LU times your cost basis per share for LU into the Total Cost Columm

-Subtract that same amount (Total Cost for LU) from the Total Cost column for AT&T

There it is. E-mail our Product Tech Fools at [email protected] if you have any troubles with this.
