Star Trek (The Iomega Mission) - Part
II

(part 1)
Well you know Scotty as well as I do, and I'm sure you can guess what he did. Yep, you're right. He locked down the panels and threw the proper switches, saying to the Captain as he did it, "Be easy Captain, I cannot anticipate what she'll do."
At Warp point 9, we were gathering information from the sensors at an amazing rate, and it seemed others had noticed also. Sub-Space was jammed with the chatter. It seemed all were trying to align themselves with us, but at the same time they all seemed to be telling us we were wasting our time and energy. We were committed, however, and many of us reaped great rewards for our early discovery.
On Star date 0423.96 Scotty finally got the warp drives aligned and we leapt to Warp 2. But the Chief Engineer, as usual, warned Captain Kirk that "the engines are not properly calibrated and the dilithium crystals could be damaged if we try to sustain warp." Well a worm-hole vortex developed around the warped warp fields and we didn't notice until it was too late. As the Doctor was heard saying as he watched the Captain struggling to save the ship from total destruction, "Spock!, Aren't you half human? Well, show it Man!" The ship was catapulted to warp 54 point 4 (in the vortex, cause that kind of speed is not possible in normal space/time) before the crystals in the engine room evaporated and the ship rapidly decelerated, finally escaping the worm hole and coming to rest at sub-light speed. (Dramatic, isn't it?)
It may go without saying that the worm hole sucked up most of the early researchers' wages and bonuses as our shock wave from the vortex reverberated through the entire cluster of sectors known as Technology. Spock offered some hope, though, when he quoted an old proverb about history repeating itself (in the case of humans anyway) because we rarely learn from our own past. He was also heard to say that the human emotions Greed and Fear swing on opposite sides of a pendulum.
Recent Developments: We have finally reached our original starting place except for the minor time differential caused by the ludicrous speed in the vortex. Scotty has managed to fabricate new crystals for the engines (even though the consensus among the crew was that that was impossible). But I remind you that Scotty wrote most of the books on star ship engines and he always kept an ace in the hole. I don't know our course yet. But If I know Captain Kirk, it will be "out there ... somewhere." Good Luck to everyone onboard.
End Log.
Computer! Dim the lights to 40 lumens, please.
