The Two Frogs
from E-Sop's Frables

One hot summer, when very nearly all the lakes and streams had dried up, a couple of Frogs decided to set out together to find a wet spot.

By and by they found a deep well, so they sat down beside it and debated whether they should dive in or not.

Wise Croaker was all for it. He said, "What have we got to lose? Here is plenty of good clear spring water and all the privacy in the world." [Translation: The stock's only trading for $1 so it's bound to double in no time and we're getting in first.]

"All very true," said Fool Croaker, "but suppose this dries up too. There we'll be, far down in the bottom of that well where we can't get out, and you can't drink privacy." [Translation: That's possible, but it's just as likely to get cut in half first and your wife will be out kissing other frogs, trying to find her new prince.]
