Back in late 94, I got the bright idea of buying call options on dell when it was trading at about 45. Earnings were about to be released and I thought that it was money in the bank!!! I'd ride the wave up and sell my options for a nice profit. Well if you ever look at Dell's chart, you'll see that that was right when there was the bear market in the tech sector. In fact, I believe the market moved lower the minute I bought my options. Anyways, what was supposed to be a short one week investment turned into a stomach-turning painfull two and a half months where I managed to throw away $6000 on dell call options. The stock hit the low twenties and I said c-ya.

Well, that was back in early 95 when I sold. Dell briefly hit the low twenties and then went on to split two-for-one twice!!!!! Now it is trading in the high eighties. If I had just used the $6000 to buy 100 shares at 45 and then another 100 shares at 25, then I would have 800 shares that would be worth $50,000+ in a matter of 3 years.
