Philip Morris - Right or Wrong?
Con Philip Morris
From an EPA Employee

Dear Fools,

The poke at the other Dow Dividend stocks is taken in good fun, and the letter writer (LuxSit) makes some interesting points. You should, however, be aware that some of the points, particularly with respect to General Motors, are based on "junk science." The flap about airbag safety and how the government ignored important information is one example.

The fact that most people do NOT buy the most fuel-efficient cars (about 1% of the auto sales market). The fact that cars are 98% CLEANER than they were 25 years ago, and that people are more likely to get respiratory problems from cockroaches than cars these days. The business about acid rain (many lakes became more acid from trees being planted in close proximity). And so on. I recommend the Junk Science Home page for further technical investigation, at www.junkscience.com

Yes, I know that this "ethics business" gets carried too far and too unevenly, and that was the point of the LuxSit letter. But you did end up repeating a lot of popular myths that really are not based on scientific facts in the process.

No, I do not work for a Dow 30 company. I work for the EPA.
