Should You Get a Pet?

The Washington Humane Society -- Join TMF Cosmos at this weekend's "Mutts on the Mall" gathering sposored by the WHS. (Her evil apartment complex won't let her have a dog, but she'll be there in her Fool cap accepting donations.) It's Sunday, September 28, from 12:00 - 4:00 next to the Air and Space Museum. Maybe your little Rover will even win the "Waggiest Tail" contest!

ASPCA -- The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals is the nation's oldest animal advocacy organization. This site has great links to local pet organizations all over the country.

Waltham -- Did you know that a Budgie named Puck of Petaluma, CA holds the record for the largest bird vocabulary? Budgie supposedly has command of 1,728 words. And you thought Waltham only made Pedigree and Whiskas! They've made a great web site too with far too many cool things to mention.

Pets on Wheels -- A TMF Hoyden personal favorite. Volunteers take their pooches and pot bellied pigs to visit senior citizens in nursing homes. Hoyden's little Belle can't pass the "temperement test" yet to be invited for a visit. But she's raising money for them this weekend at the "Bark in the Park" outside of Baltimore. Look for Trudy in her Fool cap!

PetStation -- The "Internet Home Base for People Who Love Pets." Their "Do's and Don'ts of Pet Keeping" should be read by anyone considering a pet purchase.

HealthyPet -- The web site sponsored by the American Animal Hospital Association. Good pet care tips. They even have a coloring page for kids.

Veterinary Pet Insurance -- The next time you write a check for $400 because Nipper jumped off the balcony and broke his leg, you'll wish you had checked out this site.
