HON Industries, Inc.

Another high-end office furniture company is Muscatine, Iowa-based HON Industries <% if gsSubBrand = "aolsnapshot" then Response.Write("(Nasdaq: HONI)") else Response.Write("(Nasdaq: HONI)") end if %>. Not only does the company make office furniture, but it also has a successful metal prefabricated fireplace business. On the office furniture side, the company makes a variety of wood and metal furniture through a number of subsidiaries, including BPI, Holga, and Gunlocke. The company has manufacturing facilities in nine states.

HON also it operates showrooms throughout the country as part of its marketing scheme. That doesn't mean that distributors aren't a big force. United Stationers accounted for 12% of the company's consolidated sales in fiscal 1996. HON has an international sales office and has been emphasizing international sales in the last few quarters. With close to one billion dollars in sales last year, the company ranks number three in size amoung the four high-end companies discussed in this Snapshot.

Latest Financials

For the second quarter ended June 28, HON Industries earned $0.63 per share on $296.6 million in revenues versus $0.41 per share on $219.3 million a year ago. For the six months, Bush earned $1.20 per share on $579.4 million in sales versus $0.96 per share on $452.7 million in sales a year ago.
