It's more well-known names include Hannaford, Shop 'n Save, and Wilson's. The company is in the throes of a large expansion into the Southeast, which has generated some goodwill on its balance sheet, and earnings have suffered somewhat as a result. Tangible return on capital is in the neighborhood of 14%, as opposed to the return without goodwill backed out. Hannaford has developed a lot of higher-margin private brand products and plans to continue pushing these out at the expense of its licensed brands. Latest Financials For the second quarter, sales and other revenues were $775.7 million compared to e $729.1 million reported for the same quarter a year ago. During the first half of 1997, sales and other revenues increased from $1.4 billion last year to $1.5 billion this year. Consolidated net earnings per common share for the quarter were $0.47 as compared to $0.46 last year.
