The company has served purchasers, consumers, managers, and providers of health care since 1974. United Healthcare provides a broad range of services including HMOs, PPOs and Point of Service and managed indemnity programs. In addition, the company has a number of business lines that will play a more dominant role going forward as managed care evolves, including managed mental health and substance abuse programs, utilization management, workers compensation and disability management services.

Revenues for the first quarter ended March 31, 1997 increased to $2.85 billion, a 23% 1996 fourth quarter. First quarter net earnings reached $108.9 million, or $0.54 per share, a 15% increase over net earnings of $95.1 million, or $0.47 per share, reported for the 1996 fourth quarter.
