This has resulted in a write-off in the company's most recent quarter of a $27 million restructuring charge, valuing the assets at $13 million. After completion of the sale of these operations, Youth Services will be the only publicly traded corrections firm that focuses exclusively on residential rehabilitation programs for juveniles. The company operates programs in a "boot camp" style, enforcing strict daily regimes and providing an orderly environment. The company strives to teach accountability, respect, and discipline.

Net loss for the third quarter ended Mar. 31, 1997 quarter was $21.4 million, or a loss of $2.19 per share, compared to net income of $635,000, or $0.07 per share, for the third quarter of the prior year. Net loss for the nine months ended March 31, 1997 was $19.8 million or a loss of $2.12 per share, compared to net income of $1.9 million, or $0.21 per share, for the comparable nine-month period of fiscal 1996. Included in the results for the quarter and the nine months ended March 31, 1997 is a one-time restructuring charge of $27.0 million incurred in connection with the company's decision to dispose of its behavioral health businesses. Without the charge, the company would have incurred a loss of $454,000, or $0.05 per share for the quarter, and income of $1.1 million, or $0.11 per share, for the nine-month period.
