Multimedia The Company
According to IDC Research Number Nine Visual Technology is the fourth largest
manufacturer of graphics and video accelerator boards for the PC and is the
number one supplier of high-end VRAM accelerators. Number Nine makes its
own silicon for some of its high end graphics boards called "Imagine 128."
For most of its other boards it relies upon chips supplied by S3. Nine has
OEM agreements with Dell, Gateway 2000, IBM, Intel and Microsoft. The company
has a very small float with half of its 9 million shares closely held, this
can contribute to some wide swings. NINE's announcement of an OEM deal with
Micron today has NINE's shares spiking up almost 40%. MU is offering the
128-bit Imagine 128 Series 2 graphics and MPEG video accelerator as standard
equipment in its Powerdigm XLI, a new line of workstations powered by dual
200-MHz Pentium Pro processors. With the best balance sheet of the group,
no debt and a full 36% of each share backed in cash, and a PSR of 0.28 NINE
was bound for a move.
