Perceptron, Inc. The Company Perceptron's machine vision business is built around two distinct "core" technologies, TriCam and LASAR. Perceptron offers five different products based upon its TriCam technology. TriCam integrates laser cameras and proprietary image processing hardware and software to produce a non-contact, triangulation-based, application specific solution to a manufacturer's automated assembly needs. LASAR-based systems use a different technology, called "light detection and ranging," to obtain 3D images. Using this technology, the distance, or range, to every point in the image is determined, thus providing the basis for modeling and measuring an entire scene. In this way a significantly larger field can be measured. Perceptron's products are used primarily in the automotive sector where customers can achieve quality improvements and decrease time to market for new products. In 1996 the automotive segment accounted for 96% of the company's sales. This dependence has prompted Perceptron to expand its exposure to the lumber/forestry industry, and going forward the LASAR family of products hold the promise of significant potential for development in other industries.
