1997 Dow Returns

Through October 22, 1997, here are the year-to-date returns for several Dow Dividend Approach strategies, the major market indices, and the thirty stocks that were DJIA components on January 1, 1997. (In March, Bethlehem Steel, Texaco, Westinghouse and Woolworth were replaced as Dow components by Hewlett-Packard, Johnson & Johnson, Travelers Group and Wal-Mart.) Otherwise, BTD Stocks #2 and #3. Foolish 4 = BTD Stocks #2, #2, #3, #4, #5. UV 4+ = If BTD Stock #1 is Not Also HY Stock #1, then BTD Stocks #1, #1, #2, #2, #3, #4. Otherwise, BTD Stocks #2, #2, #3, #3, #4, #5. UV 4 = If BTD Stock #1 is Not Also HY Stock #1, then BTD Stocks #1, #2, #3, #4. Otherwise, BTD Stocks #2, #3, #4, #5. BTD 4 = BTD Stocks #2, #3, #4, #5. CUVY 5 = Add the BTD ranking to the HY ranking for each of the HY stocks and then sort by the combined ranking in ascending order. Give preference to the lower-priced stock in the case of ties. If BTD Stock #1 is not also HY Stock #1, then CUVY Stocks #1, #2, #3, #4, #5. If the BTD #1 Stock and the HY #1 Stock are identical, remove it from the rankings and then select the top five stocks. HY 5 = HY Stocks #1, #2, #3, #4, #5. HY 10 = All 10 HY Stocks. Dow 30 = All 30 DJIA Stocks.
