The Daily Dow
Friday, November 29, 1996
by Robert Sheard (MF DowMan)

LEXINGTON, KY. (November 29) -- Today's action on Wall Street reminds me of what we called Cannon Sundays at my former church. It's actually a very technical term with a deep religious significance. The term was used to describe a Sunday church service where one could shoot off a cannon and not risk hitting anyone. Such was the case for the markets today.

The few traders who got stuck working today were, like me, in such a turkey-induced state of lethargy that thinking about stocks wasn't first on their priority list. (Besides, with all those football games to watch this weekend, what's a Fool to do?)

So, let's get to the point. Trading was lighter than light. The market went up decently. But nothing of real importance took place, especially for the Foolish Four model portfolio. All four stocks posted fractional gains (while Imation slipped a tad), but on such a light day there's no sense making too much of it.

So, enjoy the rest of the long weekend if you're not having to work today. Get out those 1,001 day-after turkey recipes and make a dent in those diets. See you Monday!
