The Daily Dow LEXINGTON, Kentucky (November 20) -- The Dow made quick work of the 6400 level today, surging ahead for the twelfth time in the last thirteen sessions. And ten of those winning sessions set new record highs for the Dow Jones Industrial Average.
In our Foolish Four holdings, red-hot 3M added to its recent gains today, but the rest of the elite Dow commandos went AWOL today. So on a day when much of the Blue Chip corps was on tactical maneuvers, the Foolish Four was in the stockade. (Can you tell I've seen just a little too much of the Green Army Men from Toy Story?)
In company news, Chevron's Gulf Oil unit and Texaco face prosecution in Great Britain beginning Friday for the July 1994 explosion and fire at their Pembroke refinery. The explosion and fire caused extensive damage to the plant, 26 people were injured, none seriously, and there was also damage to properties nearby.
Each company will face two charges from the Health and Safety Executive which allege that, as partners in Pembroke Cracking Company, they failed to ensure, so far as was reasonably practicable, the safety of employees, sub-contractors and members of the public.
Our adopted Foolish Four stock, Imation, announced today that it expects to phase out the sale of its Imation Onyx brand polyester plates, effective June 30, 1997. The 3M spin-off doesn't expect the move to affect its future revenues.
