The Daily Dow LEXINGTON, KY. (September 18): Have you ever driven in the evening for two or three minutes, thinking it was way too dark, before realizing your headlights weren't on? That's how it feels for me today. For whatever technical reason, the Company News archive feature on AOL won't connect for me today and I can't run my usual news search for this update.
It's not likely anything crucial is there that I've missed, but I've gotten spoiled by that easy routine of searching through the PR Newswire, Business Wire, and Reuters database each day. When it's not there, I feel a little bit like the Emperor modeling his new wardrobe.
Oh well, part of the beauty of the Dow approach is that you don't have to follow the daily news, so maybe it's a good lesson for me in practicing what I preach. One of the dangers of doing a daily write-up like this is that it forces me to watch every session's action closer than is healthy.
As for the stocks making up our Foolish Four model, it wasn't the best of days, to be sure. DuPont was flat and Kodak bounced back a little from yesterday's inexplicable drop, but the rest of the portfolio was weak. Chevron lost a half a point, and 3M and its recent spin-off, Imation, both were spanked.
Not a very inspiring Dow day, but nothing newsworthy either (I think!). Turn off your ticker tape, forget the stock market wrap-up, and enjoy yourself this evening Fools! If you have any questions about the Dow approach or any novice questions, please join me in the chat room tonight from 9:00-10:00 (Eastern).
