(September 11): According to the Fed, inflation isn't the bogeyman everyone feared recently, so the market got a little boost today, the assumption being that if the Fed does raise interest rates on September 24, it'll only be by 25 basis points. And along with the Dow went our Foolish Four stocks, up nicely, thank you!
In company news, Eastman Kodak is announcing its plans for a new advertising and branding campaign intended to reposition its Professional & Printing Imaging division among professional photographers, according to the Wall Street Journal. Kodak will simply change the name of the operation to "Kodak Professional" and try to capture more of the market, which has seen tougher competition, especially from Fuji. The division, with annual revenues of about $2.5 billion, provides film, paper, equipment and services to portrait and wedding photographers, graphic artists and photojournalists.
3M's Commercial Graphics Division is introducing several new thermal ink jet products, including patented, pigmented 3M ink jet inks and special receptor-coated weatherable opaque and translucent ink jet media and overlaminates. The opaque media is ideal for signs, posters and other large format graphics, and the translucent media is designed for back-lit signs.
DuPont and EPL Technologies <% if gsSubBrand = "aolsnapshot" then Response.Write("(Nasdaq:EPTG)") else Response.Write("(Nasdaq:EPTG)") end if %> announced an exclusive agreement between Bakery Packaging Services Limited (one of EPL's British subsidiaries) and DuPont to utilize EPL's proprietary gas-flame perforating technology with certain DuPont "Mylar" polyester films. DuPont will purchase from EPL all of its gas-flame perforation requirements for polyethylene terephthalate (PET), polyamide (PA), and polyethylene naphthalate (PEN) films. In exchange, EPL will have the right to distribute certain DuPont films. A DuPont spokesman stated that perforated "Mylar" polyester film is the latest innovation from DuPont. With its vented film surface, perforated "Mylar" automatically releases built-up steam, so foods that are heated and served in the film do not become soggy.
And finally, Imation, 3M's recent spin-off, is previewing a wide range of new digital and conventional products for the printing and publishing industry at the Seybold Conference and Exhibition in San Francisco. Featured among the new products is Imation's Rainbow Model 4700 proofing system, a four-page (A2-size) ink jet digital solution that features Rainbow color technology to users who require large format, contract quality proofs This puppy retails for just under $80,000 and is expected to be available during the first quarter of 1997. Get 'em while they last at these bargain prices.
