The Daily Dow NEW YORK, NY. (August 12): Late Friday, as Philip Morris <% if gsSubBrand = "aolsnapshot" then Response.Write("(NYSE:MO)") else Response.Write("(NYSE:MO)") end if %> got whacked after a Florida smoking trial went against a competitor, the Dow plunged quickly and powerfully. Today, though, despite some continued weakness in the tobacco stocks (although MO rebounded), the blue chips tacked on twenty-some points today.
Other than that, though, there's little to report. So, that leaves me room for a brief announcement. As you can tell from today's dateline, I'm on the road for a research trip. As a result, many of these nightly Dow reports over the next two weeks will be much later than is the norm. I won't promise a set time each night because it will vary with the research center's schedule (which for some reason is different nearly every day), but I will get it posted each night.
I've also got my spreadsheet software dilemma straightened out, so look for the Dow and IFG Statistics Center files (which are normally posted Saturday or Sunday) to show up late this evening. Again, my apologies for the delays. Makes one almost want to stay at home always.
