The Daily Dow ST. PETERSBURG, FL. (July 22): My reports will be short and sweet this week since I'm on the road. I'll be back to my normal routine next week (as well as my blow-hard self -- you've been warned). :-)
Chevron reported earnings today of $1.34 per share versus $0.93 per share for the second quarter. First Call's consensus estimate was $1.02, yet the out-performance didn't really help in today's down market. Chevron claimed its earnings were helped by strong crude oil and natural gas prices, as well as increases in international crude oil production volumes. For complete details, go to Keyword: Company News and you'll be able to pull down the news releases for today.
3M and Hoechst AG have received a go-ahead for their joint venture in fluoropolymers (to be named Dyneon) from the European Commission and expect to launch the venture in August.
Newly spun-off from 3M, Imation announced today that Compaq Computers <% if gsSubBrand = "aolsnapshot" then Response.Write("(NYSE:CPQ)") else Response.Write("(NYSE:CPQ)") end if %> is including its LS-120 diskette technology in even more models. Compaq now includes the bootable, backward-compatible drive on six of its models.
Tomorrow's Dow portfolio report may be either very abbreviated or very late (depending on what poor soul I can convince to cover for me) because I've been lucky enough to swing tickets to some Olympic soccer matches being held in Orlando. Bear with us if things are off schedule tomorrow.
