The Daily Dow LEXINGTON, Ky. (July 3): It was your basic "half" day for the Foolish Four stocks. Half were up, half were down, half had moves of a buck or more, half barely moved, and the total loss for the day was half a ten-dollar bill. (Do I "half" to keep up this line of word-play much longer?)
As expected, the Fed left interest rates alone at today's concluding session of the July Open Market Committee Meeting. So, for the professional worriers, that's out of the way; now it's on to worrying about Friday's monthly unemployment numbers. For Fools, who can predict the economy's direction just about as well as they can how badly I'll miss that island green at my favorite golf course, these events aren't of paramount importance. Invest long term, forget all the little blips in the economy and the market, and concern yourself with the important issues, like who's bringing the burgers to tomorrow's bar-b-que!
The only Foolish Four news was the announcement yesterday by General Motors that the 1997 restyled minivan will include the 3M Filtrete 1000 series Cabin Air Filter as standard equipment on the Venture, Transport, and Silhouette models. This is the first U.S. minivan to offer such an air filtration system.
The markets are closed tomorrow, of course, so here's wishing everyone a happy, Foolish, and safe Independence Day. Shoot off a firecracker for me!
