The Daily Dow LEXINGTON, Ky. (June 27): The Blue Chip index paused today, sitting on the sidelines while its younger sibling, the Nasdaq Composite, burned up energy bouncing all over the place. And along with the Dow's uninspired action, equally uninspired was the Foolish Four, slipping half a percentage point.
A very light Foolish Four news day as well. Chevron announced that it hopes to begin working with Kuwait, but no specific plans or talks are scheduled.
And 3M's proposed joint venture in the fluoro polymers sector with German chemical giant Hoechst is being reviewed by the European Commissions. The inquiry is considered routine, but must be carried out under the bloc's merger rules prohibiting the creation of or strengthening of a dominant position. The Commission has one month to clear the joint venture or start a full four-month probe.
Other than that, it was a cruise-control type day for Dow investing. Tomorrow's session wraps up the first half of 1996, and I'll have a mid-year review for you in this space tomorrow evening. Enjoy!
