The Daily Dow LEXINGTON, Ky. (June 14): Caterpillar may have taken some of the doubt out of which stock will occupy the tenth and final spot on the high yield list for the Dow Stocks. The company raised its quarterly dividend from $0.35 to $0.40 per share, boosting its dividend yield to nearly 2.5%. The dividend hike puts a little space between Caterpillar's tenth-place dividend yield and the two or three stocks which had been competing recently for the final spot. Barring some hefty price movement, the top ten should stay stable, at least for a few days!
In Foolish Four news today, the only story was CJ Lawrence's initiation of coverage on a number of oils stocks. Amoco <% if gsSubBrand = "aolsnapshot" then Response.Write("(NYSE:AN)") else Response.Write("(NYSE:AN)") end if %> was granted an Accumulate rating, but Dow components Exxon <% if gsSubBrand = "aolsnapshot" then Response.Write("(NYSE:XON)") else Response.Write("(NYSE:XON)") end if %> and Chevron <% if gsSubBrand = "aolsnapshot" then Response.Write("(NYSE:CHV)") else Response.Write("(NYSE:CHV)") end if %>, along with Mobil <% if gsSubBrand = "aolsnapshot" then Response.Write("(NYSE:MOB)") else Response.Write("(NYSE:MOB)") end if %> were opened with Hold ratings.
Overall, it was a very quiet ending to a generally weak five days for the Dow. Five straight losses for the blue chip index, yet the Foolish Four managed a slight gain for the week. Nothing to write home about either way.
So, enjoy the weekend, watch some of the U.S. Open action from Michigan, and we'll tee it up again Monday!
