The Daily Dow
LEXINGTON, Ky. (June 3): Greetings, Fools. A week's vacation and I come back to find the Dow Approach rankings exactly where they were when I left. What a surprise! Is it any wonder this approach is so attractive? I like that auto-pilot feature, myself.
I spent the week playing a little golf, reading books on my much-too-long "get to soon" list, keeping the merchants in Williamsburg in business and generally loafing it. And the amazing this is, I really didn't spend much time thinking about stocks. I can't imagine being that untethered to the market with many other stock approaches.
This was the first real test for me of the emotional side of ignoring stocks. We tell readers all the time to buy them and forget them with this approach, but writing daily updates for the Fool daily and answering questions on the message boards, we don't ever do that ourselves. It's nice to find out it's possible, even for a worry-wart like me.
Anyway, it's good to be back ... on to the news (what little there is).
Kodak made a couple of announcements today in conjunction with the COMDEX trade show. First is the announcement that Kodak is collaborating with Hewlett-Packard <% if gsSubBrand = "aolsnapshot" then Response.Write("(NYSE:HWP)") else Response.Write("(NYSE:HWP)") end if %>, Live Picture Inc., and Microsoft <% if gsSubBrand = "aolsnapshot" then Response.Write("(NASDAQ:MSFT)") else Response.Write("(NASDAQ:MSFT)") end if %> on a new imaging architecture called FlashPix. The architecture represents an open industry standard for digital imaging, with a new image file format as its centerpiece that uses Microsoft's OLE structured storage. Kodak today published information about the new format on-line on its home page, and announced that final specifications, developer tool-kits and interoperability test suites will be available in the fall for Windows and Mac platforms.
And secondly, Kodak unveiled a new product today, a digital camera (the Digital Science DC20), which is expected to sell under $350. The model is half the cost of the current cheapest model and is being targeted at home computer users.
That's all the Dow news today. Let me express my sincere gratitude for the terrific job MF Keys did on these write-ups while I was gone. Christine sent me copies of her reports and it was a real joy to read them when I returned home. Maybe we can convince her to step in and write them more often! Fool on.
